Welcome to the Prospect Heights Public Library's 23 Things

The PHPL 23 Things is a training tool for staff to learn and refresh their technology skills.  Completing these 23 exercises will allow you the time and opportunity to explore the Library's website and databases, watch videocasts, take an online training class and more.

This program was created in 2009 by Shannon Scanlan, the Technology Resources Librarian at the Prospect Heights Public Library.

The 23 Things training program is based on The Learning 2.0 program developed by Helene Blowers at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.

How it works:

The learning process is up to you. By starting at week 1 and working your way through week 12, you will complete 23 exercises. These 23 Things have been identified as basic core competencies and job skills for working at the Library. Some of the exercises are as easy as visiting a website or watching a video. Using the Internet as a training tool allows you to decide when to learn and the depth of your learning.

Getting Started:

To begin, under the Navigator section to the right, click on the folder named The 23 Things. After selecting the folder and clicking to open, chose the document 23 Things List for staff. This list can be printed out and used to track your progress of the training program. Once you've printed the list you can begin the program by watching the Powerpoint presentation and printing out the bookmark located in The 23 Things folder.

**Videocasts, movies and documents will be uploaded to this page by the Monday of the appropriate week.
